The Loire is the longest river in France, flowing through lush green countryside from the Cevennes Mountains to the Bay of Biscay. Nymphea is the only Hotel Barge navigating the river and its tributary River Cher, and this spectacular cruise winds through a broad, fertile valley passing fairytale chateaux, with visits to Larcay, Amboise, Chisseaux and Valencay. On alternate weeks, this Loire and Burgundy itinerary runs in reverse.
Chateau Villandry and its exquisite Renaissance gardens is one of the most-visited in France; one of many beautiful estates on this cruise. In the tiny village of Amboise is the Royal Chateau D'Amboise, connected by tunnel to the smaller Clos Luce where Leonardo da Vinci lived until his death in 1519. Taste Touraine wines at Domaine de Fontenay, and marvel at the underground cave village, La Magnaneraie. After exploring Chateau de Foulques Nerra, tour a local vineyard for a taste of its vintage wines and follow in the footsteps of Chopin, Balzac and Georges Sand as you stroll the gardens of Chateau de Nitray.
The Nymphea has a classical Dutch design, with warm wood interiors and stylish furnishings. The 3 en suite cabins accommodate six passengers, who are hosted by the Captain and expertly served by a Master Chef and Housekeeper. Bicycles are kept on board to allow guests to ride along the towpaths or explore at their own pace.
